Stintino is the perfect destination for anyone in search of white sandy beaches, crystalline waters and breathtaking views. This little town on the north-western tip of Sardinia, in the province of Sassari, is the ideal place to spend a holiday immersed in the wilds of nature.

Two Caribbean beaches: Pelosa and Pelosetta

For those seeking Caribbean-style beaches, Pelosa, in Stintino,  is a must. Situated opposite the island of Piana in the Gulf of Asinara, this beach overlooks one of the most beautiful parts of the Mediterranean sea, and has several times been voted one of the best beaches in Italy, if not THE best. Just a few hundred metres away is Pelosetta beach, an unspoilt cove below the iconic Aragonese della Pelosa tower. This is a good alternative for those who prefer rocky, less crowded, but still well-equipped beaches. Access to this part of the coast continues to be restricted, so it is always better to book.

The natural paradise of Ezzi Mannu

Ezzi Mannu beach is quite unique and is the perfect place for lovers of the sea and nature. This stretch of coast, nestling in a splendid natural oasis, is an easy walk from the pools of Pilo and of Casaraccio, also known as the pool of the Salinas, where, depending on the time of year, you might come across pink flamingos, herons, little egrets and cormorants. Ezzi Mannu, which is more secluded and more difficult to reach than Pelosa, is definitely the most suitable alternative for anyone seeking a Caribbean-style beach that’s a long way from the throngs of tourists.

Asinara: history and natural treasures

When visiting Stintino don’t miss out on the chance of a trip to Asinara National Park, which is easy to get to on the various tourist boats. The island offers hiking trails for people who love walking and physical activities in the open air, but there are also several other means – bicycles, electric cars, buses and horses – that you can use to explore the island in comfort. An aura of historical fascination and mystery has accompanied Asinara all through the centuries. In a single day you can follow the traces left by its inhabitants, from the earliest settlements of Sardinian shepherds, through the Roman and Medieval eras, and ending your visit at the maximum security prison at Fornelli, that made the island famous during the 20th century.
