Sassi di Matera are a spring must-see
Spring is the ideal season to visit Matera, devoid of the typical tourist influx that characterises winter and especially the Christmas festivities.
The main attraction is undoubtedly the Sassi di Matera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. There are three areas to discover: the Sasso Barisano in the north-west, the Sasso Caveoso in the south and the Civita in the centre, which represents the oldest part.
But there are also many other very evocative places in Matera, in addition to the hypogea and caves. For example, there is Casa Noha. It is the ideal starting point for exploring the Sassi and is one of the most famous examples of architecture carved out of tuff, with perfectly restored interiors.
Enrich your itinerary by including Piazzale Vittorio Veneto, the Palazzo dell'Annunziata and the Matera Cathedral. Finally, climb to the Belvedere in the Parco della Murgia Materana for a unique view of the Sassi and the surrounding landscape in springtime weather.
The UNAHOTELS MH Matera located in a charming five-hectare park just minutes from the Sassi, is ready to welcome you.
Ostuni, the white city to visit in spring
Everyone knows Ostuni and its white houses, even more beautiful to visit with the spring sun. A town to be explored at leisure, enjoying the bright atmosphere before a trip to the famous nearby beaches.
Let yourself be guided by the evocative narrow streets as you discover the historical centre, an ideal starting point for experiencing the white town and very easily accessible. Arriving at Porta Nuova, you can admire the famous Aragonese walls, which defended the city in the Middle Ages.
You cannot say you have been to Ostuni if you have not passed by the Ostuni Cathedral, the Church of the Santo Spirito, Piazza della Libertà and the Ostuni Civic Museum, which houses the grave goods from the Messapian period and many medieval artefacts.
The most famous find is the Donna di Ostuni, the oldest skeleton of a pregnant woman ever found.
Just over an hour from Ostuni is Bari, where you can stay at UNAHOTELS Regina Bari. The property, with easy access to the city, offers many facilities, including a famous restaurant, a SPA and an outdoor swimming pool surrounded by olive trees.
