Habitual visits to local gyms, jogging, or swimming routines all seem to be impacted when you're out of your normal routine and environment,  and it's often the case that sensible diet plans and eating habits are often pushed into the background, too!

Effectively, any length of hotel stay tends to reduce the inclination to stick to a normal exercise routine, while eating plenty of delicious regional food can also be a big issue for some diet-conscious guests. Of course, holiday hotel stays are supposed to be as relaxing and rejuvenating as possible, and many guests make up for any lack of regular workouts by taking walking tours or bike rides within their holiday locality.  Some people find, however, that the restful ambience of hotels and the will to live the "good life" leads to a lethargic attitude towards exercise, which can even continue after they return home.

How to stay active and healthy when away from home?

Making time for workout routines when on holiday or travelling for work is important to those wanting to stay on top of their fitness. This is easier said than done, but exercising on vacation is great for putting you in that extra feel-good mood that'll boost your holiday spirit. And, of course, exercise is also one of the best ways to combat work stress as it helps increase levels of endorphins and positivity. 

So how can you make sure you exercise when you're away? First, you'll find a range of luxury sports, exercise, and wellness amenities for guests in many of our Gruppo UNA Italian hotels and resorts , but if the gym or tennis court isn't your scene, or you simply don't have time to commit to a full sports session, we have something else which might help.

We've put together this simple hotel-room workout programme which is quick and easy to follow yet also offers any hotel guest the opportunity to maintain their regular fitness routines while staying away from home. 

You can tailor the following full-body hotel room workout to suit your own fitness level, and even if you take time to complete the full workout plan, it will still just take a few minutes out of your busy day. What's more, you can carry out our hotel workout routine in the privacy of your own room.

Our hotel workout programme.

Before starting your routine clear an area of the room that's close to the bed, placing a chair in your exercise space. You'll use both the bed and the chair throughout this routine. Follow the entire hotel-room workout below, or tailor the routine to suit your own needs:

  1. Single leg squats, 15 reps on either side – Just stand at ease in front of the chair and with your feet just one hip-width apart. Keeping your hips square, extend one leg out to the front and slowly lower your body into a squat position until your glutes touch the seat of the chair. Raise yourself back to upright position.   
  2. Single leg lunge, 15 reps on each side – Stand just to the front of your bed and with your feet square to the floor and about one hip-width apart. Lift one leg behind you and rest it on the bed, then just perform typical lunge moves by slowly bending the knee of your standing leg.
  3. Elevate body plank and oblique crunches, 10 reps to each side – Facedown, put your hands flat on the floor and both feet up on the chair and get into plank position. Slowly lift your left leg, bringing it towards the left elbow to assume the oblique crunch position, then return your foot to the chair.
  4. Walking push-ups, 15 reps – Get into push-up position on the floor and place one hand in a slightly staggered position in front of the other, then while carrying out your push up, move the backhand a little way forward so it overtakes the hand in front.
