We all need to kick back, escape our routine and dedicate some time to ourselves. What to do? Take off for a few days, pamper yourself, discover somewhere new, immerse yourself in nature or relax by the sea...
Any short break can benefit from a few tips and tricks, starting with how you organize your bag.
First off, what you pack must be functional, practical and include only what is strictly necessary for a couple of days’ getaway. Without of course forgetting essential items and clothing.
Where to start? Here’s our advice.

City break? Let comfort be your watchword

A city break weekend is one of the great getaways any time of year, a perfect opportunity to get to know a new place, dedicate yourself to art and culture, and find fun and entertainment.
You need to plan and organize your suitcase to be versatile, so that you are always on top of things at all times. Make sure you bring along a pair of comfy shoes and, depending on the season, opt for a jacket you are happy to use in all situations.
Still undecided what to wear? Think back to your mother, when she proudly dressed you in layers, “like an onion” as they say in Italian. Mamma still knows best, since you’ll probably be going out in the morning and coming back at night.

The mountain trip mantra? Comfy shoes

For many people, the mountains are synonymous with relaxation, nature and finding an intimacy of self. If you choose to go on a mountain break, bear potentially unstable weather in mind.
Always take a heavy jacket, a kagoul and a hat to protect you from the sun (even in the mountains you risk sunstroke!). Temperatures can vary a lot from day to night, so don’t be unprepared.
As in the city, shoes are fundamental to your psychophysical well-being. There’s nothing worse than finding yourself on a walk with sore feet in uncomfortable shoes. If you plan to go hiking the nature trails, always take along the right shoes, such as hiking shoes.

Daytrip to the beach? Careful not to overdo it

The escape of all escapes: a beach weekend. On the first warm days of the season, the desire to jump into the car and sit in traffic for hours to get to the beach is irresistible.
Swimwear, sunscreen and light clothing do not take up too much space in your bag, but there’s always the risk of bringing along too much clothing that you will never wear.
Two pairs of shoes are allowed. An open shoe, sandals or slippers and closed shoes that are good for walking. As for the clothes, don’t overdo it! Choose something versatile, comfortable both for a day on the beach and an aperitif or dinner on the seafront.

What you absolutely must not leave out of your suitcase

It doesn’t matter if you still haven’t decided the type of destination for your getaway, there are a few things besides shoes and clothes you must always remember to bring along.

  • A camera to take memorable photos during your trip.
  • A guidebook to the area, to make sure you don’t miss anything interesting and plan the day’s route.
  • Although it may seem obvious, don’t forget your cell phone charger.
  • An adaptor always comes in handy!
  • Sunglasses. At the sea, in the mountains or in the city, summer or winter, sunglasses are a must-have accessory.
  • Handkerchiefs and wet wipes, especially if you’re going to be eating packed lunches.
  • A beauty case with the bare minimum, i.e. a toothbrush, toothpaste, moisturizing cream, cocoa butter and, for the ladies, makeup for a basic look.
  • Papers. Hey, better not forget your documents!
