Young children and teens will be fascinated by Turin, as it offers a wealth of learning opportunities alongside lots of enjoyable sporting activities and entertainments. The city centre is a haven for pedestrians, so walking tours are a great way to teach your kids about Turin's unmissable monuments and historic architecture.

We've published several recent Turin posts in our magazine, including our guide to magical, esoteric Turin and its hidden secrets. Younger visitors to the city will adore spending a few hours exploring the mystical secrets of Turin and its links to white and black magic and the occult. Take them out during the hours of darkness -- if you dare!

Art and culture holidays in Turin.

If you're planning an educational Italian holiday in Turin with your children, the following highlights and attractions are well worth considering:

1. Festivals and Exhibitions in Turin.

The local Valentino Park hosts a number of events and exhibitions in the city, so it's a good idea to check out if there are any interesting events during your planned stay before you arrive. The park is central to Turin lifestyles, so there are always lots of local visitors, playing soccer or other sports, riding bikes, or just enjoying a picnic with friends and children.

2. Museums in Turin.

There are several excellent museums in Turin, but the Egyptian Museum could be one of the most enjoyable educational visits for kids. The museum was founded in 1824 and is the oldest Egyptian museum in the world. Children will be impressed by the human and animal mummies on display, and will particularly enjoy the interactive Family Tour, which takes around an hour.

For a little art and culture in your trip, check out the GAM, the Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea. This civic gallery of modern and contemporary art houses 45,000 works in all mediums ranging from the 19th century to the present. Learn more about local Italian art as well as international artists in this museum, which will have more than enough to keep you interested, while also having special events and exhibitions oriented towards younger visitors.

Unsurprisingly the National Museum of the Automobile is also located in Turin, and offers a unique glimpse of the history of the car, and how vehicle designs changed over the years. A variety of learning materials and interactive exhibits make this an interesting and fun visit for children of all ages.

Venaria Reale

3. Gallery shows in Turin.

If you're looking for fascinating displays of art in Turin and want to combine your visit with a trip to one of the city's historic monuments, a trip to the Palazzo Madama is a great solution for both. The Palazzo Madama is home to a number of masterpieces from the Medieval and Renaissance periods, alongside creative works and crafts from the modern era. The art is displayed inside one of the most beautiful architectural delights Turin has to offer. Designed by Filippo Juvarra, this baroque palace was the Italian residence of the French Emperor Napoleon.

Take a local bus tour in Turin.

If you want to see all the sights of Turin during your visit, one of the most enjoyable ways is via local bus tours. Buses feature audio in most major languages, so you get to find out about the history of all the monuments and sites en route.
