Etna looms over the picturesque island of Sicily at the 'toe' of boot-shaped Italy. The shadowy figure stands in contrast with the gentle beauty of the scenery below.

Etna tour excursions for everyone.

As the tallest and most active volcano in Europe, Mount Etna attracts many visitors eager to see this wonder of nature up close. Tours of Etna are widely available, taking guests by jeep, helicopter or on foot to explore the volcano. A number of different options are on offer to allow you to explore at a pace that suites your individual interests. Whether you would prefer an action-packed adrenaline-filled ride or a slower wander through the incredible landscape, you will find a tour for you.

An unforgettable Etna tour in Sicily.

A tour of Mount Etna may include exploring fascinating lava caves or having a local food and wine tasting. The thrill of a Jeep or helicopter ride gives you a different perspective on the vast volcano. A sedate hike allows you more time to take in the scenic surroundings. E-bike tours allow you to get out in nature, with a little extra help from the electric motor for those steep climbs. There are cable car rides and several different trails to take to view various craters.

Mount Etna has seismic activity several times per year, so lucky visitors may witness an eruption or active lava flows. Even if the volcano is quiet, the lunar landscape is a sight to behold. There are early morning or evening tours available for unforgettable views of the sunrise or sunset.

An exciting Jeep excursion of Etna.

Travel up Mount Etna in a Jeep and visit craters, lava flows, tubes and open lava channels. The all-terrain vehicles are able to tackle the rugged landscape and take you up the volcano with ease. Jeep tours can take you up as high as 3,000 metres, almost to the summit of Etna. A guide will take you on an incredible walk and through lava caves. Any necessary equipment is provided or can be rented.

Take an Etna tour from Taormina.

Tours from Taormia will usually travel up the north or west side of Mount Etna, departing from Piano Provenzana station. After being picked up, you will be taken up the zigzagging road to Sapienza Refuge. From there, you can take the Etna Cableway up to 2,500 metres, offering views over the volcanic landscape during the 15-minute cable car ride. Alternatively, you can go trekking around craters, including the Silvestri Craters at 2,100 metres.

Located to the south of Mount Etna, Catania is a historic port city with wonderful sights wherever you look. A tour of Mount Etna is a must for any visitor. Guided tours take you on a true adventure, walking or driving up the active volcano, exploring craters and lava caves. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, there is the option to ride a mountain bike up to the Volcanological Observatory at an altitude of 2,800 metres.

The unmissable day trip west to Mount Etna will definitely stay with you after your trip to Italy. Treks are available to suit all experience levels, from easy walks for beginners to summit climbs for the more advanced. Off-road buses take climbers from the cable car station up to 2,900 metres, from where they can continue on foot to 3,300 metres.
