It's impossible to list all the beauties of Naples, as the city is home to important architecture that dates back to the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods. The ancient city centre is a listed World Heritage Site and it's possible to see remains of Greek structures and ancient ruins and monuments around the Port area. Some of the most notable structures include:

  • the Royal Palace which dates back to the year 1600;
  • the Piazza del Plebiscito;
  • the oldest Italian opera house in existence, Teatro di San Carlo;
  • Castel dell'Ovo or the Egg Castle and its historic Roman remains;
  • Castel Nuovo.

Naples is also home to a variety of world-class museums as well as the magnificent Cathedral Church, along with hundreds of other churches dating back over the centuries. Visitors should also take time to explore the caverns and catacombs of underground Naples to appreciate the city even more.

Fireworks in Naples

Celebrating New Year's Eve 2020 in Naples.

No New Year's celebrations in Naples are complete without viewing the New Year's Eve fireworks displays around the seafront that overlooks Castel dell' Ovo. The most memorable Naples New Year begins in the early evening when visitors can enjoy the free music concert in the Piazza del Plebiscito. The concert finishes before midnight, allowing visitors to take the short stroll to the seafront and view the fireworks display. More live music is available along the seafront, offering visitors a wide selection of their favourite genres.

Lots of local restaurants offer huge New Year's feasts in the build-up to the big event, but you will need to reserve a table for your gala meals. Naples is not just home to the most delicious pizzas in the world, but fish dishes are extremely popular delicacies and local pastry makers also create memorable desserts.

Visitors looking for a quieter, more private viewpoint of the fireworks and celebrations will discover plenty of hillside locations to drink in the spectacular ocean landscape lit up by the colourful fireworks.
