If you're considering an out-of-season break, this is the perfect destination.

If you're considering an out-of-season break to fit in with the May bank holiday, or you need to get away over Easter, the capital of Lombardy has everything you need - and a little bit more besides.

Spring in Milan: what to do.

At Gruppo UNA, we're in love with Milan, and we want to share in its beauty, elegance, creativity, and history. The city is different every time you visit, and - while it's not huge - it contains whole worlds to explore. It has something for everybody. From football fans to lovers of history's masterpieces, Milan won't let visitors down.

Discover the latest trends at Milan Design Week 2019.

From 8-14th April, Milan hosts one of the world's greatest festivals of ingenuity and creativity: the famous Design Week. Milan itself is home to numerous world-leading furniture and lighting design studios, but in April, the whole world arrives to show off its creations.

Head to the Salone del Mobile at Rho Fiera Milano for a showcase of contemporary furniture design. It's great fun to imagine furnishing your dream home with the pieces on display, but if you have a bit of money to spare, exhibitors will be happy to ship pieces worldwide.

And if you're keen on the technical side of design, make a date to attend the Fuorisalone in the Magazzini Raccordati. Themed around fashion design, it promises a vibrant array of talks, photo shoots, exhibitions and artistry. Fashion lovers will be in heaven.

Wander through beautiful parks and gardens.

If you visit in spring, it can only mean one thing: flowers. As winter recedes, Milan comes alive. It's one of those places which transforms overnight as flowers emerge; nature mixes with urban life to create a wonderful atmosphere.

Take walks through beauty spots like the Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli (where you can also duck into the Museum of Natural History). And if you're in town on a May weekend, you simply must visit the Orticola Ai Giardini Pubblici. Close to Palestro metro station, this flower market and display space offers a riotous blend of flowers. It's one of the most romantic experiences imaginable.

But in truth, those are only two of the loveliest places to visit in Milan during spring. Be sure to ask your concierge team for a map of the city's hidden gardens, as they are tucked away in every neighbourhood.

Enjoy a visual feast during the Miart festival.

While the focus is on Design Week at this time, spring in Milan boasts another fantastic cultural festival. Miart (the Milan Art Festival) takes place from 5-7th April, so you can double up on art and design over a short break. And we would recommend trying to do both if possible.

The festival has a heavy focus on modern art and knits together Milan's hundreds of small galleries (mainly located around the Brera district). Ordinarily, it would be hard to see a fraction of the galleries on offer. But during Miart, you can consult guides and pick out the shows you really want to see.

Countless masterworks are on display.

Everyone seems to find time to book a viewing of Leonardo's Last Supper, and that's understandable. But make sure you spend some time in the Pinacoteca di Brera as well. It's full of breathtaking works by masters like Bellini, Mantegna and Caravaggio. Few galleries in the world can compare, and you could happily spend days wandering its floors.

Choose a hotel, book your flights, and explore.

Milan is a spring holiday destination like no other. We've talked about art, design and flowers, but there's more to discover. In spring, you can attend the San Siro in the evening to hear the Milanese roar in support of their two teams. You can walk arm in arm through Navigli, visit the impressive Castello Sforzesco, and - of course - let your taste buds guide you to the city's finest restaurants.

Gruppo UNA has the perfect hotels for your spring adventures. We have central options like the UNAHOTELS Cusani Milano, or the UNAHOTELS Century Milano, which is ideally situated for rail arrivals. There's also the UNAHOTELS Expo Fiera Milano close to the famous exhibition halls.

Our hotels in Milan make superb for your stay in Milan, and we'll make you feel right at home. But the heart of your experience will be when you dive into the city itself. And in spring, you can look forward to some incredible opportunities. Whatever you want to do, Gruppo UNA would love to help you make the most of your stay. We know Milan inside out, and we want to share what we think makes it one of the most wonderful cities in the world.
