Top annual events in Tuscany for Summer 2019.

If you're into Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, video games, or fantasy fiction and entertainments, the Unicorn Festival in Vinci, near Florence, will be a perfect treat. This is an ideal festival for children and teens, and it has been running for 15 years now. As you wend your way through crowds of elves and fantasy creatures, you'll discover more than 300 shows, competitions, exhibits, and street entertainments on offer. The Unicorn Festival runs from Friday 26 July to Sunday 28 July.     

The Versilia Riviera is renowned for its cosmopolitan ambience and nightlife. Holidaying in the Riviera area this August will be fantastic fun for contemporary music lovers choosing to attend the Jova Beach Festival in Viareggio on 31 August, and you can find out more or book advance tickets on the Jova Facebook page.

Opera, classical and jazz music fans aren't neglected in Tuscany this summer, either. There are lots of events taking place including the Siena Jazz Festival on 24 July to 7 August, the Puccini Festival being held in Torre del Lago on 16 August, and various world-class performances at the Florence Opera House, including La Traviata on 22 July.

Some of the more traditional Italian festivals in Tuscany this summer include:

  • Lucca Summer Festival: taking place from 1 to 29 July throughout the Lucca region.
  • Rifcolona Florence: the annual Lantern Festival which takes place on 7 - 8 September.

Popular wine and truffle festivals in Tuscany that take place towards the end of summer (traditionally following successful harvests) and include:

  • The Montecarlo wine festival: taking place during the first two weeks of September in this hillside town. The festival also features music and recitals, art exhibitions and plenty of free wine tastings.
  • Chianti Classico: the popular celebration of this Italian wine, offering lots of opportunities to participate in arts and cultural events and visit renowned wine cellars and castles in the region. This festival takes place during the first week of September.
  • The most popular annual truffle festival in Tuscany which takes place in November in the town of San Miniato
