Gruppo UNA

At long last, Italy is coming up to its first long weekend holiday since summer. For all travel enthusiasts, this can mean only one thing: time to travel! Let us inspire you to enjoy a fun, relaxing weekend away in Italy.

San Galgano – Chiusdino, Siena.

A majestic abbey in the Tuscan hills... One of the most enchanting complexes of its kind in Tuscany, San Galgano features a hermitage known as the “Rotunda” at Montesiepi, and the ruins of the Great Circestense Abbey in San Galgano itself. It even has a sword in the rock! If the Rotunda of Montesiepi harks back to the saga of King Arthur, the Great Abbey immerses us in atmospheres typical of the days of the search for the Holy Grail. The Great Abbey of San Galgano and the Hermitage of Montesiepi are open to the public every day.

Lake Bolsena and the old villages of the Maremma.

Lake Bolsena is located in upper Lazio, on the border with Umbria and Tuscany. The area is full of interesting little towns. Proceeding along the Tyrrhenian coast, the first town you come to is Capalbio, a perfect place for lunch with views out over the coastline spanning Ansedonia, Orbetello and the Fenilia. Further inland, you’ll find a number of small towns perched atop tufa cliffs in an enchanted landscape: Pitigliano, Sorano and Sovana are the most famous of these. Don’t forget the beautiful Terme di Saturnia, perfect in November for an autumnal immersion in its steaming hot waters.

The Eternal City rises majestically less than two hours from Lake Bolsena. Once you get to this part of the world, even if you’ve already been to Rome, it’s always worth another look. Why not use Rome as a base for a side-trip to the Maremma area? In the old part of town, UNAHOTELS Decò Roma benefits from an evocative architectural design and an art deco interior for a truly Italian-style welcome.

Campania’s islands: Ischia and Capri .

Ischia is the largest island in the Campania region, known for its wide and varied landscapes. The island’s charming old town is characterized by narrow streets and old shops. The Aragonese castle at Ischia Ponte is the island’s most famous monument. In addition, the island offers numerous spas, earning it worldwide renown. The island of Capri has been a sought-after summer destination since ancient times, famously attracting poets, writers and VIPs. Capri’s renowned Piazzetta is the classic starting point for any visit to the island. Everything here is breathtaking: from the spectacular 1930s Gardens of Augustus to the Charterhouse of San Giacomo and the island’s wonderful flower-bedecked villas.

Forte dei Marmi.

Elegant, coastal, mountainous, hilly... Forte dei Marmi is a place where you can relax on the beach and in the surrounding pine forests while living the life of a VIP, spoilt for choice among boutiques and trendy clubs. The town’s name and symbol make a perfect fit: it has a fort right in the city centre... or rather, the Fortino to emphasize its dual identity, since this structure is associated with one of its most fruitful trades: marble. The architecture of the Roma Imperiale district, where you can visit residences designed by famous architects such as Giò Ponti, is a feast for the eyes. Moreover, Forte dei Marmi makes an ideal base for a host of stunning side-trips to the south, to coastal destinations like Marina di Pietrasanta and Viareggio.

Cesena.

A few kilometres from the Adriatic coast, Cesena is a treasure trove of history and culture. Besides being famous as the city of the three Popes, Cesena is inextricably associated with the Malatesta family, to whom we owe the famous Malatesta Fortress and the Malatesta Library. In Piazza del Popolo, the Masini fountain, made of Istrian stone, is well worth a visit. On Spaziano hill, you’ll find the Benedictine Abbey of Santa Maria del Monte. Cesena also boasts interesting streets: the Valdoca district is highly-recognizable with its brightly-coloured houses, while the historic centre is a roll-call of buildings built by Cesena’s most important families.
