Not only the famous Lake of Como...

Gruppo UNA

Lake Maggiore, Lake Como, Lake Varese are all within an easy drive of a Gruppo UNA hotel. When you stay with us, we guarantee you a warm welcome full of friendly Italian hospitality along with fine dining and excellent guest facilities that include spas, swimming pools and fitness suites.

We've put together a brief guide on how to do the Italian Lakes. Choose one hotel as a base for visiting the Italian Lakes during these seasons or combine two or three to create your own Italian Lakes tour.

The lake season runs from Spring to the end of October. At this time temperatures are perfect for walking and the gardens that surround the Lakes are a riotous blaze of colour as camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons come into bloom.

Lake Como: the perfect getaway when you are in Milan.

Lake Como is tucked away to the north of Italy, overlooked by snow-capped mountains. Although popular with tourists, much of its shoreline still retains a traditional feel of Italian village life. Beautiful gardens are open to visitors, while the towns of Bellagio and Varenna are particularly photogenic.

The UNAHOTELS Varese is a scenic hour's drive through the Lombardy countryside from Lake Como. This hotel combines warm Italian hospitality and dining on local produce with luxurious contemporary styling.

Reaching Lake Como from the vibrant city of Milan takes around one and a half hours, making it a pleasant destination for a day trip when you stay in a Gruppo UNA hotel in the city. Our selection includes the gracious Maison Milano | UNA Esperienze, located in a carefully restored historic building, or the UNAHOTELS Cusani Milano. This features more contemporary surroundings yet still maintains a warm Italian atmosphere.

Lake Varese: a beautiful (and less crowded) scenery.

The Swiss-Italian Alps provide a majestic backdrop to the scenery of Lombardy's Lake Varese, which lies in a green basin at the foot of the Campo dei Fiori mountain ridge. The UNAHOTELS Varese is just a few minutes’ drives from the lake's shores, making it an ideal base for Italian Lakes exploration. Enjoy outdoor activities or a gentle stroll before returning to the hotel ready to sample some local specialities in the restaurant.

Lake Maggiore: a jewel in North Italy.

Once a destination for the nobility of Europe, Lake Maggiore is today a peaceful place ideal for walking or, if you're feeling more energetic, mountain biking. A highlight of a lake visit is Isola Bella, where you can wander around a Baroque palazzo and its terraced gardens. Other places worth stopping off at for lunch or that make for perfect photo opportunities are Cannero, Cannobio or Pallanza.

The UNAHOTELS Varese is just 40 minutes’ drive from Lake Maggiore. Or, perfect if you want to combine Italian Lakes travel with city sights and sheer indulgence is the Maison Milano | UNA Esperienze. This boutique hotel is set in a restored Italianate building and is full of period detail and charm.

We hope that our brief Italian Lakes travel guide has tempted you to enjoy some of Italy's most spectacular scenery. If so, we look forward to welcoming you with traditional Italian hospitality to a Gruppo UNA hotel.
