The skyline reflecting the light of the sun; the mountains in the background like in a postcard; the smoke from the winter chimney tops adding an Impressionist touch to the picture. Enjoying a city view from an elevated position is always a way to discover new perspectives and points of view revealing the beauty and true essence of the place. Milan has many panoramic spots you can visit during your stay. Here are the top five you must not miss.

The Duomo Rooftops

Did you know that the Duomo rooftops have a walkable surface of 8.000 square meters from where you get a close-up look of the cathedral’s spires and statues and have the chance to appreciate the beauty of this Gothic church in all its glory? All you need to do is book your visit to the so-called Terrazze del Duomo di Milano, high up at about 60-70 meters above sea level. An unmissable experience from where you’ll enjoy a privileged point of view, that of the famous Madonnina.

Terrazza Triennale

If you fancy a good view while enjoying a gourmet meal or sipping a glass of wine, be sure to go to Terrazza Triennale (Osteria con Vista) inside the Triennale contemporary art museum: one of Milan’s best rooftop establishments, with a splendid view on Milan’s skyline, embracing the old Castello Sforzesco and the modern Porta Nuova skyscrapers united by the green presence of Parco Sempione.

Torre Branca

Torre Branca, once known as Torre Littoria and designed by architect Giò Ponti, was erected in 1933 in Parco Sempione. High up at 103 meters you will enjoy a fabulous 360° view of Milan. On particularly clear days you will see the Alps, with Mount Resegone, Monte Rosa and the Apennines.
A Torre Branca visit lasts about 7 minutes. Opening days and times vary depending on the season.

Monte Stella or Montagnetta di San Siro

The Montagnetta di San Siro (the Little Mountain of San Siro), as often called by the Milanese people, is a small artificial hill made using the debris caused by the World War II bombings. Covered in vegetation and included in an extensive requalification plan of the area, the hill features a series of large cement steps climbing up the side of it all the way to the top reaching 50 meters above sea level affording a view of the city and its surroundings. On a sunny day and during spring this is the perfect destination to relax outdoors surrounded by nature.
